THE ARTIST
SILVIA CHITI
Silvia Chiti is an Italian ceramic artist based in Tuscany.
Her approach to ceramics is deeply rooted in a sensitivity to form, proportion, space and material. Working primarily with stoneware and porcelain, she combines wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques to create objects and sculptural forms inspired by the natural world.
Her work explores the balance between structure and organic movement, drawing inspiration from the world around us.
Rather than seeking to represent nature, Silvia translates its processes through clay, allowing gesture and material to become an integral part of the final form.
THE PROJECT
TIDEWORN
Tideworn is born from a slow and entirely manual process, in which the surface of each
vessel is shaped directly by hand. Starting from the base and gradually moving upwards, each erosion is formed with the fingertips through a continuous, repetitive gesture.
The clay is pressed, drawn and worn away, allowing the movement of the hand to evoke the slow action of water, wind and time. No two surfaces are ever alike. Each mark emerges from the behaviour of the material itself, creating a dialogue between gesture and matter.
The vessels appear as fragments of a landscape slowly shaped by the elements —
somewhere between rock, water and earth. Rather than reproducing a natural form,
Tideworn seeks to evoke the process through which nature creates one: slowly, intuitively,
layer by layer.
The collaboration
Silvia Chiti x Eleventy
From October 28 to November 11, the Eleventy windows at Globus in Zurich showcase a selection of creations by Silvia Chiti.
The encounter between Eleventy and Silvia Chiti is rooted in a shared appreciation for craftsmanship, the authenticity of materials, and the value of time devoted to creation. The works on display engage in a dialogue with the Eleventy collection, helping to create a space where fashion, design, and Italian
craftsmanship come together.
